Who and What is Reece's Rainbow?

In short, Reece's Rainbow is a non-profit organization that advocates for orphans with Down Syndrome. In the United States, there is an abortion rate around 90% when children are diagnosed with this condition. This is a devastating statistic, and clearly our country has a long way to go before we can truly say we embrace this part of our population.

In countries worldwide, specifically many Eastern European countries, upon birth doctors often encourage mothers to give the child up to the orphanage, as they are shunned by society. (I believe that until our own nation stops aborting such a large number of these children, we cannot pass judgement on other countries for operating the way that they do.)  The truth is that we all could use a little enlightening on what Down Syndome is, what it means, and who these children grow to be (which is almost always a much better outlook than the grim reports that doctors seem to give.)

Reece's Rainbow is an organization that does just that. They spread TRUTH about the children. They give HOPE to parents who choose to keep their children. They provide a FUTURE to children blessed with an extra 21st chromosome.  They are not an adoption agency, but provide a way for orphaned children and families to come together.

They have a great website that gives detailed information on who they are. I highly recommend checking out this amazing organization; it's impossible NOT to be moved!

And in case you are wondering about my affiliation... I have none. I'm just a lady who came across the site one day (no clue how, as I wasn't searching for anything to do with Down Syndrome); I happened upon the site, looked at the faces and stories, and realized I couldn't sit back and forget.

Oh, and so you know, they are a 501 (c)3 organization, so donations are tax refundable.

Be sure to check out the "Awards and Recognition" page; Andrea, the founder of RR, was recently named People Magazine's Hero of 2010!!
